Virginia Tech Will Face Kentucky in the 2019 Belk Bowl

Kickoff Set for Tuesday, December 31st at 12:00 p.m.


Charlotte, N.C. – The Virginia Tech Hokies will face the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2019 Belk Bowl, it was announced today by the Charlotte Sports Foundation, owner and operator of the game. For the game, Virginia Tech is designated as the away team and Kentucky is the designated home team. This will be the 20th meeting between the two schools, and first since 1987. The Wildcats lead the series, 11-6, with two ties.

College football’s only bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the 2019 Belk Bowl will be played on Tuesday, December 31st, with a 12:00 p.m. EST kickoff at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Celebrating its 18th year, the Belk Bowl will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Virginia Tech will be making its second appearance in the Belk Bowl, defeating Arkansas 35-24 in 2016. The game marked the Hokies’ largest comeback victory in school history, roaring back from a 24-0 halftime deficit.

Kentucky will be making its first appearance in the Belk Bowl and in Charlotte overall.

Both teams finished the season strong and have passionate and enthusiastic fan bases that should make the 2019 Belk Bowl a tremendous experience. Virginia Tech finished the season with an 8-4 overall record (5-3 ACC) and finished second in the ACC Coastal Division. This is their 27th straight bowl appearance, the longest current streak in the nation.

“I’m proud of the way our team battled and competed to earn another bowl berth for Virginia Tech,” said Virginia Tech Head Coach Justin Fuente. “We enjoyed a fabulous experience during our trip to the Belk Bowl in 2016 and we can’t wait to go back. I know our fans will be excited about traveling to support our team in Charlotte as we square off with Kentucky.”

Kentucky finished the season with a 7-5 overall record (3-5 SEC) and tied for fourth in the SEC East Division. The Wildcats won three straight games, and four of their last five, to end the regular season.
